Perpetual Children – Down Syndrome Awareness Month – Day 12.

Although AJ is still quite young, and very clearly still a child, being in the Down syndrome community means that my Facebook feed is full of people who are kids and adults of all ages.

Perpetual Children down syndrome awareness month day 12

people with down syndrome do not stay perpetual children. they grow up to be adults who have their own opinions, thoughts and feelings.

There are middle schoolers who are cheerleaders and athletes. There are teenage girls who are boy crazy and love to dance. There are teenage boys who love cars and video games. There are models of both genders. People on swim teams. Theres a para professional who was inspired by her own para to become one too. There are adult business owners who have their own employees. There are college students who have very college aged senses of humor. There are couples who are dating, engaged and even married. There are many who live independently and drive and use public transportation.

It’s honestly really amazing and uplifting to see. Social media gets a bad reputation a lot of the time, but for us it sends a lot of hope and promise as to what the future may look like, and a lot of support from those who have already walked this road.
