Brushfield Spots – Down Syndrome Awareness Month – Day 7.

When most people think of the eyes of a person with Down syndrome, they typically think of how they are almond shaped and slanted. But often times if you look closer, you can see a bit of a different sparkle in their eyes.

I had never heard of Brushfield spots until someone else pointed AJ’s out to me. Once I knew they were there I realized that it was part of what made his eyes so beautiful.

It can be hard to notice them at first, but once you know they’re there they start to pop out at you all the time.

I will admit that I was initially concerned that it was going to lead us to yet another diagnosis. But it turns out that they don’t impact his vision in any way. These beautiful white dots in a ring in his eyes are just that – beautiful.
