Getting A Trach / Trach Placement Day

We can all breathe a lot easier now – one of us quite literally. AJ is out of OR and back in his room. His little cheeks are red and rashed from the tape that’s been on for months, but that will fade in time.

Before…

He will need to spend the next week staying pretty still as things heal. He’s not completely paralyzed and knocked out, so he’s been wiggling a little here and there.

Ultimately – he has a clear and free face. Nothing is going in his nose, and even though that pesky tube is stuck underneath his chin and I’m sure he’s not 100% comfortable, he looks far more comfortable to me in general than he did with a leash down his nose. Once his first trach change is done he’ll be able to move around much easier than before. I can’t wait. ❤️

We were informed that he does have some moderate vocal cord scarring. We don’t know much yet about what that means or how it will affect him, but in the grand scheme of things it’s not important today! What matters is that we made it through today’s surgery and are one step closer to being able to bring Mr AJ home eventually!

There’s still a long ways to go, but we’ve come a long way from where we started already. ❤️. Thank you, everyone, for your continued love and support!

Also – Daddy made it here in time for pre surgery cuddles. Last time these two got to snuggle was before AJs open heart surgery over a month ago.
