Don’t forget ‘old fashioned’ fun

When did kids stop learning to play plain old card games?

I was thinking about some of my fonder childhood memories earlier today and the thought of playing card games with my brother, with our cards on a piece of cut out countertop on Elsie and Bozo’s floor popped into my head.

So naturally I taught Averie how to play 31 tonight, just like Elsie and Bozo had so many years ago. She beat me fair and square time after time.

So then I showed her how to play solitaire – we started with the “easy” version and now Aaron’s challenging her to play her first game with alternating colors and drawing three cards at a time.

I love watching her mind work, she reminds me so much of myself as a kid, but with so much more confidence. I hope she keeps that. 💕
