Cherished Portraits, and more waiting on a second opinion

We didn’t hear back on our second opinion today, so we are still in limbo, most likely for the weekend. AJ continues to be stable – in fact the beeping noises on the machines have decreased quite a bit and it’s quiet enough during the day to manage a nap even – which both Aaron and I managed to do today. He’s still in the bed, which really is the most amazing thing ever. Being able to snuggle up and cuddle with him whenever we want instead of just reaching over into a glass heated crib is a huge comfort.

Today a photographer came to the room to get pictures of AJ and Averie. She took some of Aaron and I despite my protesting slightly. I look miserable after all the days of stress and crying. And sure I’ve showered, but my hair hasn’t seen a brush after any of those showers. Ultimately that’s not whats important though and I’m sure I’ll cherish the pictures forever.

For the pictures they took off the sensor that was on AJs head, so we’ve been taking advantage of that extra snuggle space too. They were also able to put a couple of different outfits on him – which is no small feat for a baby attached to so many tubes and wires. We offered to cut the one shirt that needed to go over his head and the nursing staff refused and took the time to put on and take off everything, even having to work some magic to disconnect and reconnect the ventilator quickly. I seriously can’t say enough about how awesome the staff here has been. Averie even got to go to a “party” today and dance with the Hawkeye cheerleaders.

We also continue to be overwhelmed by the support from our friends, family and even complete strangers. We may not have time to respond to every message, but we definitely read them all and are so very touched.

And an extra big thank you to everyone who has donated. We are blown away by the love and support we’ve received there, it’s so unexpected and there just aren’t words to express how grateful we are! http://m.gofund.me/m43qcu5k
