Pre LTR, Triple Scope

This morning was AJ’s scope that’s needed to determine if he will be eligible for a reconstruction surgery.

Earlier today prior to heading back

ENT and Pulmonology said he looked great. He actually has a small amount of clearance that wasn’t there before, and his vocal chords are moving, though they’re pretty restricted – that confirms that he was “talking” around his trach with the noises he was making.

They did change the size of his trach – it’s wider (so he’s less likely to be able to talk around it, but should be able to breathe easier) and shorter. He had no signs of bronchitis or irritation of any sort in his lungs or airway itself. ENT had us sign consent for surgery next week. Said that this is truly the best state he believes he could be in, and his only concern is his lower oxygenation levels possibly hindering healing, but there is nothing we can do about that and we owe it to him to try.

GI came in after them, and unfortunately didn’t have as good of a report. He has bumps and irritation in his esophagus, his stomach lining was red and irritated and his duodenum had bumps like he would with celiac if we were feeding him gluten. But we aren’t, sooo… they’re going to check his liver function, do an ultrasound, get the impedance probe results, get the biopsy results from during the scope and go from there.

We should know by Tuesday or Wednesday what the results are and what’s next. Praying that whatever is causing the GI issues is simple and doesn’t need a lot of attention or cause a delay. The ultimate goal is to make sure he has the safest procedure possible, so if we need to fix something else first, then we will!

Pictures show how closed off his airway is currently.

Thank you everyone for the prayers and positive thoughts.
