Plans for Returning “Home”

Well. It’s been a bit since I’ve written an update, so I’m going to keep this one short and sweet.

As long as everything goes to plan, at this time tomorrow, we will be back in Iowa City at UIHC!

We still have a long road ahead, the classes we’ve taken the last week are a stark reminder that even when we do eventually get to go home we won’t be like normal parents. Getting situated in iowa, getting back where we were before off the vent during the day, getting home nursing lined up, sorting out stacks of medical equipment, getting transit home, AJ ultimately needs a surgery to reconstruct his airway eventually and if all that goes well that will likely result in the removal of his trach and then with luck his third open heart surgery when it’s time and he’s ready for it. There will always be blood thinners, labs, caths and echos and X-rays galore, not to mention overcoming the normal developmental milestones that are harder to hit due to the heart surgeries, the trach, vent and even the Down’s syndrome. The road in front of us isn’t straight and narrow, it never has been and maybe never will be, but going back to University of Iowa with a Glenn is the best possible outcome we could have hoped for this happy little man!

So, on that note, this momma has to get up extra early tomorrow for take off. Please keep a safe flight in your prayers for us for tomorrow, and a safe drive for daddy as he wraps up our things in philly and makes the trek back on his own too after the car is fixed.
