First Bath for AJ / Becoming More Involved

This evening was busy… But busy in a good way.

First, the construction crew working on the new hospital building next door made build-a-bears and brought them by for the kids. AJ got his very own super hero bear, and there’s another bear here waiting for his sister.

Not long after, he got his very first REAL bath. This was the first time he was able to dunk into the water. We took all of his sensors off for a good scrub down. He loved the bath and was swimming his feet around like crazy. I took the opportunity to take a picture of his chest and all of his battle scars. ❤️

It’s so rare to see him completely wire free…

He had PT come by with some instructions on how to position him and then some playtime with a mirror and toys. He wasn’t too sure about it, but he gave it a few minutes before he passed out.

I tried my hand at as many things as I could manage today – some more basic things like diaper changes, clothing changes (x2!), giving him a bath, lifting him up off of the bed, sitting him up and moving him up and down the bed, and some more complex things like suctioning, changing the Velcro that holds his trach on, cleaning the trach site, and even getting over my fear of poking him and giving him his lovenox shot.

Needless to say? We really needed the cuddles at the end of the day today. 💕

Next steps are to keep working on lowering his ventilator support. So far, so good!!
