Celebrating the 2018 CR Kernels Kid Heros

A huge thank you to the Cedar Rapids KernelsRonald McDonald House, and everyone who was able to come out to support us at the ballpark last night. It was definitely hot, but even after a rough start we were able to keep AJ cool and hydrated enough that he made it through the whole 9 innings, even with a delayed start!

AJ and Averie both were recognized as Kid Heros before the start of the game. I’m so thankful, not only for the kids getting recognition, but for the organizations realizing the value in celebrating not just the kids with health needs, but also the siblings, who endured so much – and in Averie’s case, will remember it so much more vividly too.

He was even adjusting to the sudden loud noises by the end of the game (which is a pretty big deal for AJ!) It was an experience our family likely wouldn’t have been brave enough to endure yet, and we are thankful for the opportunity as well as the gentle nudge outside of our comfort zone.

And an extra thank you to our nurse, Jill, who was able to extend her hours and come with us – allowing Mom and Dad the freedom to enjoy the game and company with friends and family without worrying about who had eyes on AJ – something we don’t get to do nearly as often as we would like these days!
