AJ is 3 Months Old

Happy three month birthday AJ!

Can we talk about progress here for a second? We had a blowout in our first outfit of the day, so I seized the opportunity to put him in the outfit he last wore here at the U of I.

Nearly three months time are between these two photos. The one on the left was premie sized vs the current newborn one. So much bigger, healthier, and with far fewer wires (though the clothes conceal those a little…)

Definitely a lot to be thankful for.

He had an echo today to get a baseline here at the U of I on his heart, and ultrasounds to check for clots. All routine things, and everything looked as expected.

Currently they are working on AJs vent settings, trying to get him back on an LTV. He’s used one previously, but only for transport, not for long term home use.

They’re adjusting his diuretics, trying to see how well he can shift some of the fluids on his own as well.

Aside from that the goal is to monitor him for growth now that his feeds have been adjusted to straight breastmilk. They are starting a fortified today to up the calories, but he has not lost any weight since arriving back here, so that much is good!

We’re also starting the steps of getting him used to the idea of getting some food orally, so giving him tastes of breastmilk on his pacifier.

I started practicing doing suction of his trach, which is a little scary when he coughs, but ultimately isn’t too bad. Aaron and I even managed to work together to get him dressed and took off and replaced a sensor in the process. Baby steps, but moving in the right direction!
