List: Things that are hard to do in a sling

Hopefully tomorrow afternoon I’ll get the all-clear to go ahead and be done with the sling I’ve had to wear since Friday…  It’s only been five days and I’m going nuts.  I can’t even imagine having to keep wearing one for longer than that.  I have no idea how people do it!

Anyway, here’s what I discovered is hard to do…

  • Grocery Shopping.
  • Swiping a credit card.
  • Signing your name at the store.
  • Putting away groceries (even with the help of a preschooler).
  • Going to the bathroom (especially trying to go in a hurry!)
  • Cleaning the living room.
  • Folding blankets.
  • Blowing your nose.
  • Washing your hand (hard to scrub with just one hand!!)
  • Opening a box of food.
  • Eating left handed – especially cutting your food up.
  • Getting undressed.
  • Taking a bath, washing your hair and shaving your legs.
  • Getting dressed.
  • Helping your preschooler go to the bathroom.
  • Catching your preschooler as she jumps off the couch onto you.
  • Putting shoes on your preschooler because she has to wear boots to bed.
  • Changing the sheets on the preschoolers bed after she wets it.
  • Changing the preschooler out of her wet clothes.
  • Showering off and washing the preschooler.
  • Pouring milk for cereal out of a full gallon.
  • Spreading butter on bread.
  • Opening a candy bar.
  • Brushing your hair / putting it in a pony tail.
  • Swatting flies off of yourself as you try to sit and relax outside.
  • Stirring up dip for a get-together.
  • Carrying the preschooler from the couch to her bed after she’s passed out.
  • Putting away the preschoolers toys after she passed out.
  • Buckling the harness in the carseat for the preschooler.
  • Using the laptop/typing/blogging.
  • Putting on makeup.
  • Tying your shoes.
  • Putting on your own seatbelt.
  • Driving.
  • Changing the air settings in the car while driving.
  • Talking on the phone and doing anything else at the same time (ex: putting on preschoolers shoes).
  • Operating a computer mouse.
  • Typing at work.
  • Putting on your headset at work.
  • Opening a bottle of wine.
  • Roll out cookies (thankfully Aaron did that for me)

Sad thing – I think out of all of them, putting on my headset at work was the worst!  At least struggling with pulling up my pants happened in private…  and of course, every time I was done with a call I’d rip the headset off my head out of habit, even if there was only a 5 minute break until the next call, so I had to figure out how to force it back on my head repeatedly.

Anyway, here’s to hoping I’m done with this craziness by this time tomorrow!

At least someone enjoyed me having a sling… it was a perfect ‘bed’ for the ponies.

  1. Well I hope you are done with it Friday. LOL brings back lots of memories for me when I lost the use of the left arm(which still is not 100%) for a while. That was hard enough I can not imagine being with out the right arm.
